Course Description

In this class, we will be making a simple whistle and then turning it into a slide whistle. This will be an enjoyable time in the shop. Making the slide whistle will teach boring long, straight holes, working with tolerances, an intro to wood acoustics, and a lot of laughs along the way. This is a truly beginner-friendly class that is perfect for teaching kids, but can also introduce a lot of new skills for any skill level to learn.

Tools/Materials Needed

Supplies needed.
1. Hard wood block 3/4″ X 3/4″ X 6″ 
In-person students will be using Maple, but any hardwood will do.
2. 1/4″ round dowel 1′ long
In-person students will be using poplar, but any hardwood will do.
3. 4′ of Para cord (optional)
 
Tools needed
1. 1/4″ auger or twist bit at least 6″ long
2. Small joinery saw
3. Set of files and rasps
4. Sandpaper around 100 grit (optional)
5. Block plane
6. Carving chisels or knives (optional)
