Spoke Shaves 101: Christmas Tree Fun!

Course Description
In this class, we will be looking at many different types of spokeshaves and their uses. The class will cover sharpening both flat and curved spoke shavings. We will also practice their use by making Christmas tree curls and ornaments. If time permits, we will even make hand-held helicopters. Come for a festive, fun time in the shop!
Tools/Materials Needed
Supplies needed
1. Scrap for testing edges, any wood with an edge will do
2. Popsicle sticks get a few, so you can find one with good, straight grain.
3. Wood For Tree 1/4″ X 1/2″ X 6″ Any straight-grain wood would do
4. Wood for a helicopter, any straight-grain wood will do
a. one piece 1/4″ X 1/2″ X 8″
b. one piece 1/4″ X 1/4″ X 8″
Tools needed
1. Flat-bottom spoke shave
2. round bottom spoke shave (optional)
3. comcave spoke shave (optional)
4. Sharpening stones
5. Vice grips (optional)
6. slip stones or wave sharpener (optional)
