Spoon Carving 101
Course Description
Carve your own spoon and invite handcrafted objects into your daily life. The class will cover how to source wood and prepare your own blanks. The students will then have an opportunity to use hand tools like spokeshaves, gouges, and various knives to make their spoon. Lastly, the class will touch on finishing techniques for your spoon. This course is suitable for people of all levels
Tools Needed*
– A vise of some sort to hold your workpiece while we rough shape the piece of wood (workbench vice, Woodcraft pattern maker’s vise)
-If you do not have a vise, you will need a couple of clamps to hold your work piece
– Bent Gouge (7L/20 or 8L/20 = like this)
– Carving gloves (like these)
– Spokeshave
– Hook Knife (like this)
– Straight Knife (like this)
