Beginnners Floral Marquetry
Experience Level: ANY
Instructor: Albert Kleine (Instagram)
Class Size: 6 Students
Sessions: 2 sessions at 6-8(ish) hours each
This course will be in person in Laurel, MD

Course Description
This course is an introduction to marquetry- the practice of inlaying wood veneers to create images. While marquetry can be done with modern power tools such as CNCs and scroll saws, this class is focused on traditional methods of double-bevel marquetry using only hand tools.
The first session will be focused on theory and process. We will discuss the geometry of double-bevel marquetry, go over the tools and materials, and get you started with proper sawing technique. By the end of this session, you’ll be able to inlay a piece of veneer into a backer veneer – the basic building block of all marquetry work.
In the second session, we will work together hands-on using the skills we learned to create a simple floral pattern. We’ll also cover more advanced techniques like layering pieces, optimizing grain orientation, sand-shading, and considering oxidation and shrinkage for you to take your marquetry to the next level.
While this course is designed for beginners, you will learn all of the techniques you need to dive into the art and create more complex projects. Some experience with woodworking is helpful, bt certainly not necessary – all skill levels are welcome!
