Course Description

In this course Shea Alexander, from Alexander Brothers, will teach you how to do relief carving. He will walk you through how to layout and execute a design like the one in the pictures above. You are then able to apply these skills to other projects and other designs. 
 

Shea and his two brothers operate Alexander Brothers (alexanderbrothers.com) in Timberville, VA.Shea Alexander is a woodworker, Drew Alexander is a blacksmith, and Josiah Alexander is a leatherworker. Tools Needed

-Lumber to practice on 3/4″-1″ thick, 5″-7″ wide, and 10″-24″ long (Quarter sawn oak would be best for this style of carving)
-A way to secure the workpiece to a bench top
-Compass or pencil dividers*
-12″ Ruler*
-Pencil

-A good variety of carving chisels (including shallow gouges, medium gouges, U profiles, and a V profile)
